Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is an activist in the field of feminist media as well as a public speaker, and Canadian. Feminist Frequency was founded by Sarkeesian. The website hosts videos featuring commentary and analysis of gender representations in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American journalist and critic who has been awarded awards for her work, is an activist blogger. She is the creator and director-general of Feminist Frequency an educational not-for-profit site that examines the representation of women in pop media narratives. As well as working to expose the issues surrounding sexual harassment and attacks on women, others of minority groups in the online world, she is dedicated to breaking down stereotypes that are associated with pop culture. Sarkeesian who has the degree of Master's in the field of Social and Political Thinking from York University, is a sought after public speakers. She has delivered speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. She was interested in feminist issues, gender and gender equality from a very early age. When she graduated in 2009, continuing to study at the university level, she created the Feminist Frequency site. A woman with ambitions to launch a web-series that would examine the representation of gender in video games was targeted in the internet campaign. The attack did not stop her from pursuing the project, and instead it bolstered her determination as an activist for women in media.
